Fiat GOBI Maggiora - 1984

 

 

 

Presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1984, the GOBI, a name derived from the homonymous desert, set out to enhance or better emphasize the Fiat Panda 4x4 model presented in 1983, which in my opinion is not very marked and cannot be distinguished from the original model. The same pitch and carriageways, steering wheel axis, pedal board and occupant position were obviously maintained. The Gobi was born as a pick-up with a rigid and removable rear cover. The project also presented some interesting innovations shown in the drawings. The search to make the impact with pedestrians (recently operating legislation) and the trapezoid plan to reduce the lateral encumbrance and to facilitate the disengagement (- 150 mm) operations diagonally was accentuated. The headlights were rigidly anchored to the frame and protected by a grille, the same for the rear lights. The obliquely cut bonnet allowed excellent access to the mechanical part and could tilt upwards. The vehicle was marching and for the Maggiora it was a good opportunity to be present in the exhibition sector.
